As of 1 August 2026, the GAIA self-assessment on hospitality and sponsorship compliance is also fully applicable to medical device companies. When hospitality offered to participants during educational events is funded by medical device and/or pharmaceutical companies, a self-assessment must be completed as part of the accreditation application.

The updated self-assessment starts with an initial screening through a set of preliminary questions. Only where there is a significant financial contribution from industry is a more detailed financial assessment required, including submission of the event budget.

Depending on the outcome, a manual review by the Review Board may be required. A fee of €300 applies for this review. The updated guidance document is available here.
