As of 19th September 2020, the sale of self-tests for corona antibodies are no longer prohibited by the FAMHP. Though, the FAMHP warns for a false sense of security or unnecessary anxiety of the users.

Self-tests show whether a person has developed antibodies against the coronavirus. The test cannot determine whether it is an active novel coronavirus infection or whether or not the person is currently contagious.

Self-tests are far less reliable as similar tests performed in clinical laboratories. If there is any doubt concerning the result when performing the self-test, whether a positive or negative result is obtained, a doctor should be consulted.

The FAMHP also warns for counterfeit self-tests that circulate the internet. It is highly recommended to purchase self-tests from a trusted source, such as a pharmacy.
